Blepharoplasty Overview
Blepharoplasty is a bespoke procedure that removes excess skin and refines or repositions fat to restore light and definition around the eyes. The aim is not to change your character, but to relieve heaviness, soften under-eye puffiness and refine the lid–cheek junction so the eyes appear open, bright and composed. Types of Eyelid Surgery
Upper Blepharoplasty
Treats upper-lid hooding and heaviness by removing redundant skin and refining small fat pads through an incision hidden in the natural crease.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Targets under-eye bags and puffiness by removing or repositioning fat and tightening skin. The incision is typically hidden just below the lower lash line or inside the eyelid (transconjunctival approach).
Upper & Lower Blepharoplasty (Combined)
Combines both procedures in a single session to rejuvenate the entire eye area, addressing both upper lid drooping and lower eye puffiness for a comprehensive result.

The Procedure

Will I be awake?
Yes. At The Cranley Clinic, blepharoplasty is performed under local anaesthetic only. You’ll feel pressure and movement rather than pain, and we can pause to keep you comfortable throughout.
How long does surgery take and do I go home the same day?
Most procedures take around 60–150 minutes depending on whether upper, lower or both lids are treated. It’s a day-case procedure, so you go home the same day. Upper eyelid surgery is commonly about an hour in experienced hands.
Where are the incisions and scars?
For upper lids, the incision sits in the natural crease. For lower lids, the approach is either just beneath the lash line (subciliary) or inside the lid (transconjunctival) when skin tightening isn’t required. Scars are placed with discretion and typically refine well.
What is the typical recovery timeline?
Most people feel presentable for desk-based work in 5–7 days. Visible swelling and bruising generally settle over 1–2 weeks, with definition refining across 3–12 weeks.
Will my eye shape change?
The intention is a fresher, rested look that preserves your character. Technique focuses on relieving heaviness and smoothing contours rather than altering your natural expression.
Will it help my vision?
Where excess upper-lid skin is physically overhanging and narrowing the upper field of vision, patients may notice a functional improvement once this is relieved. Your consultant will advise case-by-case after examination.
How long do the results last?
While ageing continues naturally, improvements in eyelid contour are typically long-standing. Upper-lid results often endure for many years.
